Fr. Peter E. Raad was born in Lebanon on July 22, 1959, and was raised in a devout and loving Catholic and Orthodox family. He came to the US in 1977, and after receiving the BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, he began his academic career in 1986 at SMU in Dallas, TX, where he retired as a Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering and a Member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers. He served SMU in a number of research and administrative roles, including in the founding of a university-industry research laboratory (NETSL), the founding of a pioneering graduate program in digital game development (The Guildhall at SMU), and the spinning off of a precision instrumentation company for semiconductor electronics (TMX Scientific, Inc.).
On June 2, 2018, Bishop Edward Burns ordained Raad a Deacon for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas, and on May 7, 2023, Bishop Elias Zaidan ordained him a Priest for the Maronite Catholic Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles. Fr. Peter is currently serving as the administrator of the St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Mission in Nashville, TN. Fr. Peter and his wife Jocelyne were married in 1982 and have lived in Dallas since 1986.
They have four grown children and two adorable grandchildren.
